The Malaysian Comickers’ Challenge is back again this year! Let the brain juice start flowing and get those hands to start working on your submission! Who knows, you might be on your way to Japan next year!

Rules and Regulations

Intro

Are you simply overflowing with comic ideas and looking for an outlet to channel them to? Well, look no further! Kick off your comic ideas with the Malaysian Comicker’s Challenge and get a chance to impress an international panel of the comic industry’s top professionals! The Malaysian Comicker’s Challenge is the best chance for artists to get their skill known and you may even be chosen to expand your idea into a full series!

Challenge Requirements

Unique Requirements

  • Maximum 22 pages
  • 1 page coloured cover
  • 16-21 page comic
  • Setting/Concept write-up of comic (not exceeding 500 words)

General Requirements

  • All submissions must be original, unprinted, unpublished and unlicensed work
  • All submissions must be submitted either in English, Chinese and/or Malay
  • Setting/Concept write-up of comic must be in either .doc or .odf file formats in Times New Romans, font size 12.
  • All image submissions must be in A4, 300dpi in .jpg/.jpeg
  • Any submission with dialog must be submitted with an additional version void of dialog
  • All submissions must be presented (to be read) from left-to-right

All finalists must be able to attend Comic Fiesta 2016 Day 2 for
  • CCS (comments, critique and suggestion) session with the judges
  • Prize Giving

Prizes

8x finalists will be selected :
  • [A] 1x Grand Prize of RM2000 + Guided Study Trip to Japan (for one)
  • [B] 1x Runner-Up of RM500 + Guided Study Trip to Japan (for one)
  • [C] 5x Honourable Mentions of RM200
3x Special Mentions of RM200
  • Best Art
  • Best Storytelling
  • Best Panelling
  • Etc…
* All finalists will be allocated a commemorative plaque and certificate of accomplishment.

Judging Criteria

Artwork 30% ---------- Creativity 30% ---------- Storytelling 40%
General Details
  • Participation to the challenge is open to humans of all ages and race.
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
  • All submissions cannot contain elements that are overly gory, bloody, and/or sexual.
  • Artists may submit more than one (1) submission, in which case, each submission must be submitted individually with its own entry form.
  • Any one (1) artist will only be eligible for one (1) prize. If an artist wins for more than one (1), only one will be awarded to him/her by the organizer. This excludes Special Mentions. An artist can win prize A, B or C and still be eligible to a Special Mention.
  • Submission deadline is on 5th September 2016.
  • All submissions will go through two (2) levels of judging;
– Preliminary, where 8 finalists will be selected by a panel of local judges,
– Finals, where placing is confirmed by a panel of international judges.
  • The decisions of the judges are final. Any and all complaints will not be entertained.
  • Finalists will be confirmed and notified through email by: 1st November 2016.
  • All finalists will be given two (2) day free entry to Comic Fiesta 2016.
  • Finalists will be required to attend Day-2 of Comic Fiesta 2016 for a CCS (comments, critique and suggestion) session with the judges as well as the prize giving session.
The guided trip to Japan will only cover the following for one (1) individual,
  • Airplane tickets from Malaysia to Japan (and back),
  • Accommodations
  • Transportation in Japan
  • Guides and Interpreters
  • Further details for the trip to Japan will only be confirmed after Comic Fiesta 2016.
  • Winners must have a valid passport and be able to travel to Japan to be eligible for the trip to Japan.
  • Winners may request for an additional companion for the trip to Japan at their own cost.
  • If travelling alone, winners under the age of eighteen (18) must have a signed letter of consent from at least one or more of their parent(s) and/or legal guardian before they can proceed to Japan.
  • By submitting your entry, the organizer for this challenge will reserve the exclusive publishing rights for your submission from the point of submission to December 31st 2017. Otherwise, the copyright of all submissions will remain with its respective submitter.
  • The organizing committee for this challenge reserves the right to disqualify any submission at its own discretion.
  • The organizing committee for this challenge reserves the right to amend and edit the details of this challenge at its own discretion without prior notification.
